Joe and James, the owners and live-in managers of the Monarch Homes, are caring and knowledgeable when it comes to helping others to get clean and sober. They provided me with a solid home base for 6 months while I worked hard to get traction in my recovery. Though I am married with a home of my own, I decided I needed the extra help of a sober living environment for awhile. The description of their homes on their website is absolutely accurate. I know from my own research and experience, there are no similar sober residences of this quality nor run with such integrity in the Sacramento area. I trust Joe, he helped me tremendously by providing encouragement and accountability within a safe and comfortable home. I saw the ways he extended himself to others in the home as well. The decision to go into a sober living house was not an easy one but walking into Monarch Santiago for the first time made that decision much easier. It is a beautiful home that is well furnished, kept and managed. Everything about Santiago makes you feel like this is a home more than a business. The support received and the friendships made will carry me as I continue to build a life as a sober man. I would like to give a special “thank you” to Brian (the House Manager) who supported me, both as a House Manager and friend.
I’m in LOVE with the Santiago Monarch house. It is a welcoming environment that feels like a big hotel. The people in the house are welcoming and are always willing and ready to work together as a group to offer support to a new resident. As the house manager I cannot say enough good things about the facility. I’m able to practice my own 12 step recovery work daily with the residents as I watch them walk through the experiences of early recovery. I’m able to offer support and a shared experience in an extremely safe environment. The neighborhood is also a benefit. A block away from the L Taraval and 19th ave the amount of restaurants and shops offers are great resources for those without a car. I’ve got nothing but love for Monarch.
Monarch opened so many doors for me. Brian is a great house manager and so supportive, and James is dedicated and genuinely puts in effort to change so many lives. I am so fortunate to have found this place it’s clean, spacious, and comfortable. Truly a community of people who want to help each other grow.

Monarch saved my life. I agreed to stay here on a one-month trial run and loved it so much I ended up staying for nearly a year. The house gave me the support I needed to build a new life. Coming home after a long day and having other folks who understood what I was going through made all the difference. The house manager, Brian, is an exceptional human being and is there to support you. Not to mention the house is spacious, very well-appointed, and comfortable. The house dog was a plus for me, too :). I’m in love with my life now and I wouldn’t have been able to do it with Monarch.
Monarch sober living gave me a real shot at sobriety. James, the co-owner, and Jenan, the house manager (at the time), were there for me with open arms. I started at the Santiago home where I met lifelong friends and shared a room. Then I moved to Middlefield to have my own room and was able to transition to a life that was more independent. Because of the continued support and opportunities given by Monarch, I was set up for complete success. I can now proudly say I live in my own apartment in the city for the first time in my life and have 450 days of continued sobriety. I will forever be grateful for James and Monarch Homes.
I have nothing but great things to say about Monarch. I lived here for over a year and the owners/house manager were supportive, friendly, and in every way helpful. Not only are the house managers supportive, but they go way beyond making sure you feel like a part of this community in every way possible. Joe showed me so much love and helped my dad get me in and out of treatment centers. Found me in hotels to save my life and get me into detox and kept me alive to be living today. I love him, and your child or parent will love him and feel loved. I was a hardcore addict, and if you need actual care, his homes will provide that.
Monarch provides a safe, supportive, and clinically responsive environment. As a family member of a resident, I was nothing but impressed and comforted by each and every interaction with the Monarch team. Since I am located out of the area, their partnership and communication provided me with a tremendous amount of peace of mind. I knew I could count on them to closely monitor my family member's care needs, and that they would keep me in the loop. Amazing house and managers. I’ve lived in several different sober homes and this one is BY FAR THE BEST! I ended up staying for a year and a half, all of which I was supported and encouraged to build on my program. Now I have over a year sober and still visit the house for celebrations ❤️ It’s an invaluable experience where you can gain lifelong friendships and amazing support systems.
